About the North Fork Writers' Group
Our group was founded in 2010 by Gene Rackovich, who has published five books of human interest stories based on his life experiences and insights. Having long felt the need for a writers’ group on the East End of Long Island, Gene was determined to help create one, and posted flyers around the town of Greenport to invite established and aspiring writers to meet in Greenport’s Floyd Memorial Library.
Those meetings soon outgrew the constraints of a public library, and are now held in the intimate atmosphere of members’ homes, where we are always eager to hear and discuss new works that our colleagues are creating. The camaraderie we share provides the mutual support for which Gene had hoped, while also developing close friendships that encourage our creativity.
Over the past few years, the group has developed a core membership of the authors whose tales were selected for our short story anthology “7 Voices” – now available in e-book and soft-cover formats. We are, in order of length of group membership: Gene Rackovich, David Porteous, Kit Storjohann, Joyce deCordova, Jean Schweibish, Susan Rosenstreich, Teresa Taylor, Helene Munson, Andrea Rhude, Gerard Meade, and Bill Rue.
Our group continues to write and create. Several members have been busily launching their own books (Teresa's Family Rules, new member Bill’s Sea of Troubles, and Dave’s Strangers In My Mind), as our tales progress, take shape, and accumulate. Volume Two, released on July 21, 2018, is now available for purchase wherever fine books are sold.
Our North Fork Writers Group’s story is still a Work-In-Progress.
